“You Pretty Boy, Take Picture With Me”

I swear that’s what that one shameless Chinese girl in Beijing said to one of my American friends. My friend who just happened to be Caucasian, 6′1″ (186 cm), with green eyes and light brown hair.

Then a few more of her friends surrounded my tall white American friend for additional pictures. I only captured this one.

A similar incident occurred at the Forbidden City. Except that Chinese girl requested to be photographed with all three of my white American friends.

Keep in mind this was back in the summer of 2004. I’m not quite sure how much of a difference that makes, but I am certain Chinese locals, especially in Beijing, are much more accustomed to seeing fair-skinned foreigners now than they were just a few years ago.

With a picture like this, I can’t avoid the topic of Asian girls and white guys. You know what I’m talking about. Yes, that. I know that topic’s been beaten to death all across the Internet already, but if anyone’s interested in my views on it, I wrote about it in an article published on a different website way before conception for this blog even began.

I would like to add something related that I didn’t mention in my earlier article on my trip to Korea.

This happened while I was in the bathroom. No, this didn’t happen in the bathroom.

My friend and I were at the major shopping mall in the Samsung district of Seoul. Some of you might remember that my friend is a girl. And naturally she told me about this after the fact. While I was in the bathroom, she was standing outside waiting for me. A Korean girl and a white guy, neither of whom was very good-looking, walked by. The girl, tugging on the guy’s arm with both hands as if her life depended on it, gave my friend a haughty look and flipped her hair.

My friend and I laughed about it afterwards.
